Artis Zoo
Established in 1838, this is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands. As you step through the gates, the zoo's character, atmosphere and history are apparent. Hosting approximately 700 species of animals, this is a great place to visit for all the family.  The Artis Zoo also houses an aquarium, planetarium and botanical gardens.
Begijnhof
The Begijnhof was the home of a religious community, the beginnings of which are believed to be approximately 1150.  Today, visitors may visit this historical collection of houses and chapel and may enter daily from 9:00 to 17:00.  This is an interesting step into history and religion and it should be noted that this place of interest and prayer is one of silence.
Rijksmuseum
This art and history museum that was established in 1885 is one of the most famous museums in Amsterdam.  The interesting collection at this museum is separated into the sections of an art collection, a history collection and in addition a collection of drawings, prints and photographs.  This is a popular place to visit while in Amsterdam and is open daily from 9:00 to 18:00.  Tickets for this location may be bought online prior to visiting.
Anne Frank House
Open every day, this museum lets visitors see the actual place where Anne Frank went into hiding. Visitors may enter the secret annex where Anne Frank wrote her now famous diary.  Visits to this site for children are available for those aged ten and above only.
Heineken Experience
Rather than describing itself as a museum, a visit to this Heineken site is considered as an experience and immerses visitors into the exciting Heineken world. This site is only for those that are of drinking age.  The Heineken Experience is open from 11:00 until 19:00 daily.  Tickets may be bought in advance online in order to avoid an unnecessary wait.
Science Center NEMO
This is a huge science center that offers an interesting and playful experience of science and technology for all the family. Tickets may be purchased online in advance and this site is open on Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00.
Van Gogh Museum
This museum hosts a large permanent collection that is the biggest compilation of Van Gogh's work in the world.  This museum also houses various works of some additional 19th century artists.  The museum is open on Saturdays through Thursdays from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Fridays from 10:00 to 22:00.
